(9,895 posts)Bend over, here it comes again...for the last time.
Humanity is on the precipice of extinction and has been misled by short-sighted greed to ignore it. Capitalism was ALWAYS a Faustian bargain...infinite growth is required to drive it, and that was NEVER possible on a finite resource planet - unless EVERYTHING was based on the one renewable input into the system - solar energy. Without a complete and total restructuring of the world's major economic model, and a corresponding change to local, sustainable farming and away from industrial, carbon-input based corporate farming, we are going to be all gone before 2100.
If we had spent the last 60 years investing in solar power, battery storage of electricity and efficiency improvements on transmission and regeneration, then MAYBE you could have adapted capitalism to allow for the continued mantra of GROWTH GROWTH GROWTH...but we did not. Now, we are faced with the truth - there simply was too many people stealing too many current energy needs from dead and gone carbon repositories to last forever.
Yet what do we have?
Trump - a man so stupid and inept and corrupt that he LOST MONEY in casinos...literally having the odds stacked in HIS favor was not enough!
Inhofe - making jokes and holding snowballs while stuffing his pockets with oil cash...
There are just too many examples to bother listing more, but they all have a common element - GREED and a total willingness to LIE to keep the spigot flowing.
Our current society and its structures are almost completely out of time - its too late to save them, and time to save even half of the humans alive today is rapidly dwindling. Think of watching bath water drain from a tub...a first it seems very slow, then more rapid until at the very end it seems to just disappear...we're at THAT stage NOW.
