Horse and rider in the print "Flag of Truce in the Indian War" are situated the same as in Naughton's dreck, but are presented in in mirror image dressed in "Colonial Garb" and with a dark and stormy background and lantern instead of daytime in the hills with a rifle.

Naughton has a problem with his reds going brown and doesn't understand chiaroscuro, especially using whites and ochres for tone.
Probably uses cheap Hobby Lobby acrylics in gallon lots.
