(644 posts)I started using Facebook a number of years back because my son was posting pictures of my grandchildren and I wanted to see them. Being a practical sort, it was totally useless to me otherwise so I soon turned it into my political commentary, news of the day, and various and assorted scientific news--whatever I choose.
I have few "friends" on Facebook and post everything as "public" because I want everyone to have access to what truth I have to share. I think it is important for us to fight back in every way possible against the forces that are shaping our world and attempting to destroy us. Facebook is one of the tools in my arsenal of truth telling. For me, posting the truth has become one way for me to feel that I am doing something constructive.
As for Zuckerberg and his policies, he is just another one of the crappy capitalists gaming the system (who set up this particular system using their ill gotten gains, by the way.) We, the people of the world, need to elect people into office that will actually represent us rather than the corporate raiders. We, the people of the world need to take back OUR MONEY in order to take care of each other and the world we live on.

In the meantime, this is how I protect myself: (If you are doing something better, please let me know.)
I use Mozilla Firefox as my ISP and StartPage as my search engine rather than Google Chrome so that I can search "anonymously." Firefox also gives me the option of a number of ad blockers and I use uBlock Origin, which blocks most of the ads on Facebook, as well as most other sites. Finally, Firefox in the past few months developed a container app for Facebook that I highly recommend. It seems that Facebook tracks you around the web by the use of its icon on all the pages that you visit. If you see the Facebook share icon on a website that you are visiting, then Facebook has recorded you. The container app puts a fence around it to block that from happening.
