They are living in the moment, they want to keep their power and all the many ways that being in the good graces of the "conservative" cult can turn them a buck now and after they are in office, first and foremost, but even more, they have poured their bullshit kool aid down their throats by the gallon and truly BELIEVE in it all.

FURTHER, they very successfully manage to rewrite history. Their perversion of what our Founder Fathers said and created and Christianity, hell Reagen was recast as a demigod within a decade of the end of his tenure.
