(21,446 posts)for 16 years after the Great Depression, 12 years of FDR and 4 years of Truman. Besides a devastating pandemic now, we are also on track for another depression. A real depression, not a recession.
Republicans are refusing to do anything to help people facing economic disaster when their $600 unemployment bonus ends, or to take necessary steps to save the economy. Millions face loss if hoysing when they can't make mortgage or rent payments. Massive homelessness, like the 1930's Hoovervilles, loom in the near future. For everyone's sake, I hope it does not come to that. But if it does, I don't see how the Republican party can survive.
Expect some political morphing, maybe some new parties rising and falling, shifting agendas, etc. While the American political scene sorts itself out in the pist Trump era. Watch for the same players on the right to clean up their image with "new" agendas, promises, appeals to women and minorities, and perhaps a new party name. Same books, though, with new dust jackets.
