(38,317 posts)77. My ancestors were not Mormon in Mormon country.
That's how three of my grandparents landed in California. They couldn't be Mormon. World War II handed them the opportunity to leave.
My last immigrant ancestor to the U.S.A. was a mail order bride to Salt Lake City from Scandinavia. She didn't like sharing a husband so she ran off with a monogamous Scots Irish Catholic guy the Mormons had hired as a surveyor. Possibly because Mormons were not good at math.
I have some great grandma letters to trusted relatives. OMG. She did not like Mormons, even as they'd saved her parent's ass's from worse shit in Europe.
Clearly your mom was a strong woman.
