That surrenders the entire GOP to Trump and Trumpism. 30M GOP voters are Trump loyalists and will follow him off of the top of Trump Tower. But 40M more GOP voters are essentially GOP loyalists and only follow Trump as far as the GOP tells them to.

For the sake of our country, the GOP brand can't be handed to Trump. Trump and his 30M Trump Tower Jumpers need to be pushed into forming their own MAGA Party.

To pull that off requires that "rational" Republicans need to do some tricky balancing to push the next-era of the GOP back toward the center by pushing out the MAGA, threatening to leave the GOP, enough of them actually leaving to prove they are serious, but... ultimately staying in the GOP to secure the 40M voters are lead back toward the center.

It's a nearly impossible balancing act, but it's made feasible by Trump's own narcissism. He wants so badly to be the center of it all, that he might force a MAGA 3rd Party just out of spite.
