Adherence to our Constitution is what defines our government.
This was an attempt to replace the Constitution with rule by autocrat and mob.
Had it succeeded, it would have been the destruction of the federal government as legally constituted.
Sounds like a coup to me.
As I understand it, the phrase "coup d'état" means a blow against the state.
The only way this doesn't qualify is if, like Louis XIV, Trump is entitled to say, "The state is me."

It's only a coup if its from the coup d'etat region of France, otherwise its just sparkling white
