(10,500 posts)All religions. But the Christian religion has been right at the top, from burning so-called witches at the stake to the Crusades to the Spanish Inquisition to the murder and torture of Irish Catholics and on and on. And todays far-right white evangelicals are just as bloodthirsty. Many of them bleat about their loss of religious freedom when it is their ability to force everyone else to follow their rules, based on nothing but bias and arrogance, that they have lost.
I will borrow from Grover Norquist and apply his comment on government here to the intolerant religious right: May their religious extremism be reduced to a size that can finally be drowned in a bathtub. I am not anti-religion because I dont care what other people believe so long as their beliefs do not infringe on the rights of others or get inserted in secular government in any wayand so long as my tax dollars are not supporting them. The megachurches that rake in millions tax free come to mind as a right-wing religious organization that needs to be taxed. If theyre going to get involved in politics, as they have, they should no longer be tax exempt.
