(43,517 posts)44. it's a clear logical fallacy, you cannot spin or pettifog your way out of that fact
Tony Perkins of the very influential Family Research Council has gone on the record saying that liberal Christians don't count as "real Christians", that they aren't a real religion.
that is also a clear 'no true Scotsman' fallacy as well, just going the other way on the political spectrum
What's the point of logic in arguments when only our side uses it?
In this case, neither side is, and when logic is tossed, breakdown often soon follows. Why would we ever want to stoop to the level of brutish and dull thugs in terms of our critical thought processes?
You also do not seem to understand what an informal fallacy is, judging off this
Really informal, so what?
Informal fallacies are a form of incorrect argument in natural language. The source of the error is not just due to their form, as is the case for formal fallacies, but can also lie in their content and context. Despite being incorrect, fallacies usually give the appearance of being correct and thereby seduce us into committing and accepting them. This is often connected to various aspects of natural language, for example, due to ambiguous or vague expressions or due to premises being assumed implicitly instead of stating them explicitly.

OP
That is actually a very simple, fundamental informal logical fallacy to claim that.

Two groups claiming the other is not 'real christian' is the essence of pointlessness,
