One thing I read that really surprised me is that conservatives can genuinely LIKE all the people they distrust as a normal thing, the way I like people I assume will mostly tend to behave okay. Now me, if I don't trust one of them not to cheat and betray I'm not going to like him so much, but I don't see that as normal in everyone.

And when an intensely authoritarian business owner I temporarily once worked for kept the supply room locked, from what I've since read she likely underneath was not just guarding her pencils from the potential thieves she was surrounded with, but also may have been, in a kindly, even generous way that she didn't need to think about, protecting her employees from the temptation to steal.

The very byzantine systems that couple felt necessary to protect their business from its employees, btw, were what finally drove me to read about conservative psychology. They certainly weren't the first who had me wondering, though.
