12. Who or what could survive the great distances they would need to travel.

Remember when Columbus discovered the Western Hemisphere land mass and then traveled to California ? Of course not. It took generations for that. So what if a civilization, far far away, built humanoid robots that could reproduce or at least repair them selves over and over by "borrowing" fresh DNA along their journeys. They may never had a plan to return home, but continue traveling and reproducing or rejuvenating. Scientist are growing human organs in labs right now. 3D printers would allow space travelers to build their own spare parts on the fly. I'm an engineer and believe almost anything is possible . We still don't understand gravity or how to harness it. Someone, somewhere may have.
