(36,057 posts)like taking the bus. It was a great analogy, though I can only remember the main point of it.
So here's the variation I'd say to David Hogg:
You're 23, right? Life is long, right? No one's perfect, right? No democracy is perfect, right?
So why not look at voting this way:
The Democratic politics bus line is the one we take to get us close to our destination -- we don't expect it to get each one of us to our exact address -- and so we take the bus line that gets us closest to the street where we the people want to end up.
When the bus drops us off there, we have to walk together the rest of the way, being neighborly, to get to our separate places/goals.
To get there, our best guide is not to make the perfect the enemy of the good. Or else we'd never get on the bus in the first place. But if we don't get on the bus, we're on our own, and getting home is so much longer, lonelier, and wearying.
