In reply to the discussion: Appreciation thread for our friend Rhiannon12866 [View all]Rhiannon12866
(206,420 posts)I was waiting for the John Oliver premiere video to be uploaded after the show and I fell asleep. Needless to say, I'm a bit overwhelmed and slightly embarrassed as well. As I said to my buddy, KS Toronado, it's not that I'm all that chatty, but I served as a DU.2 mod, a DU.3 host and on MIRT numerous times and it adds up. And I have been here since DU.1.
But I truly appreciate all the kind replies - and the plethora of hearts which was truly overwhelming. And I can hardly complain since the ever popular hearts week (which I love!) is all to benefit DU. And I hope that I did my part since I believe that everyone here, no matter how or how much you participate deserves a boatload of hearts just for being here and supporting both the site and sharing so much knowledge and important news each and every day. I found DU back in 2003 after being scared witless by 9/11. I was in my dentist's chair in Albany, N.Y. when all hell broke loose and all I had to do was watch the TV turned to CNN by my dentist and see that second plane hit the WTC over and over - and I eventually walked out into the September sun believing that the world was about to end.
I'd always voted, mostly for Democrats, but the news often put me to sleep, now I watch little else. And I'd never been on any message board before so when I got a reply on my very first post, I kinda freaked out - but it turned out to be DU's one person welcoming committee, newyawker99 (who many of you will remember) welcoming me to DU. And she became my first DU friend - and not only did I come back, I now count so many fellow DUers as friends and DU is my online home - where I continue to learn from all of you every day.
So thank you for your kindness and letting me know that I do belong. And I try to pay it forward.
Rhiannon
