NJ-SEN: Andy Kim (D) wins Warren County, his 5th straight convention victory [View all]
Rep. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown) has captured his fifth consecutive convention victory, winning the endorsement of the Warren County Democrats in his bid for a U.S. Senate seat.
Kim defeated First Lady Tammy Murphy, 33-6, (80.5%-14.7%), with two votes for activist Patricia Campos-Medina, at the convention this afternoon in Hackettstown. (That small number of votes represents fairly strong turnout, since Warren Democrats currently have only 64 eligible convention delegates.)
Lawrence Hamm, a former Newark school board member, was the only candidate who did not attend todays convention.
It is so important for Democrats to show up and have their voices heard all across the state, especially in those areas that are traditionally Republican strongholds, Kim said in a statement after his victory. Thanks to everyone who turned out and voted this afternoon! The energy we saw today will help us take our grassroots momentum through June 4th and into November.
