In reply to the discussion: Nicolle Wallace has thrown in the towel [View all]brush
(58,304 posts)47. IMO Garland never rose to the moment, never seemed to grasp that the J6 coup attempt was the most severe threat...
to our democracy since the Civil War...I repeat, the Civil War. He was late investigating the J6 planners, including of course, trump. We all saw it on TV, what trump did, and didn't do, yet more than 3 years later, he's yet to be tried.
After the second impeachment and the turn over of power to the Biden admin, Speaker Emerita Pelosi's House Select Committee begin hearings in late July, 2021, but Garland's DOJ had way more resources and man/woman power to investigate the trump cabal before the hearings even started, but they waited for the Committee's report...months of time lost.
They did go after the small fry insurrectionists who invaded the Capitol, but the main planners have yet to be tried and lawyers have out maneuvered our justice system, with a complicit judge in one case, SCOTUS also curiously added a long delay by agreeing to hear trump's absurd immunity case...more weeks of delay, and lately a seemly complicit SDNY with it's huge, last minute document dump into the Manhattan DA's case, thus another trial delay.
Also, Garland appointed SC Smith a year too late which has resulted in where we are now, up against a coming election and still no trial/s.
But matter of fact, he didn't have to appoint a special counsel at all, late as it was. He could've taken charge himself early in the Biden admin, made going after the coup planners top priority and supervised the DOJ itself in investigating and prosecuting the coup planners.
Like I said, IMO he didn't rise to the occasion, just ill-suited for that job.

Don't need to be an expert to see Garland didn't go after TFG as if TFG were black

And, yet, people keep claiming that he's not being held accountable for anything.

Voters won't hold Trump "accountable" - best we can do is not put him in charge of the country again.
