Many of the greatest Presidents become so because they succeed Presidential disasters. This was certainly true of Lincoln (Pierce and then Buchanan) and of FDR (Harding, Coolidge, Hoover). Grant succeeded Andrew Johnson.
On this score, Joe has them all beat, having succeeded the worst President ever, the only person horrible enough to bump Buchanan out of the bottom.
Lincoln in ordinary times might have been just an average or below average President, but in his times, he was far and away the greatest in my view.
President Biden has risen to the challenge that has saved the country many times, to our surprising good fortune, a great President following a horrible President.
