and "rule by consent" goes out the window. Not to be too cynical, but a government doing things against the best interests of the people is basically how an oligarchy operates, and the GOP has reformed itself in the last few years to operate as an oligarchy. If you read the Project 2025, it's basically a road map to end majority rule. If they gain power they won't care if what they do is popular or not. The majority of the news organizations are already owned by billionaires who are backing Trump anyway, and enough people are already trained to think as they're told to think. They are pretty close to being able to pull it off.
