Hold fast lightly [View all]

For a while, when we had moved to the continent, I used to do long-distance bike rides- very long distance.

On one ride through New Hampshire, Vermont and way into Quebec. (and back) I learned to hold fast lightly on bumpy roads.

If you hold the handlebars very tightly when the road is rough you get shaken. If you’re holding secure, but not gripped tight and you allow some room for play, let your legs take the shocks and you have a much smoother ride.

That’s what I am reminding myself today. Hold fast lightly. Steady.
