Looks like Ukraine invaded [View all]
Russia in the Kursk region, on the 6th and 7th. They are over the border as far as 15km into Russian territory.
Apparently, the Chechnya troops situated there cut and ran, leaving Russian conscripts behind. It isn't clear how many Ukrainian troops are there, or if they will stay, but they are wreaking havoc. They have eliminated multiple Russian assets, like helicopters and tanks, which includes one nifty strike which destroyed tanks or other such vehicles being transported to the front in response to the invasion. But, Ukraine destroyed the vehicles as well as the flatbeds they were being transported on.
There was something about Russia not being able to use their glide bombs against Ukraine, but I didn't get it.
I'm waiting for news of the fate of the Kerch Bridge. It's my fantasy that Ukraine takes the bridge intact with some Russian territory at the Russian end. If Ukraine gains Russian territory, they increase their ability to negotiate some kind of peace deal.
But, I also think that those Russians would be better off with Ukraine. Bet Russia never thought this would happen.
