(121,860 posts)Aircraft operations are under the jurisdiction of the FAA. Airports charge landing fees for larger airplanes, based on their maximum landing weight, which is about 90,000 lbs. for a 757. BZN charges only $3 per 1,000 lbs., so that fee would be only about $270 - which doesn't explain the claimed $12K. However, an FBO operator could refuse to hangar or fuel the airplane once it landed, and an amount that high might be for fuel (if he'd ever been to BZN before). Since Jet-A costs about $6 per gallon and a 757 can hold as much as 11,000 gallons, it could be that he has an outstanding fuel bill from a previous visit and was notified that he couldn't buy any more fuel at BZN until he paid the past due bill. That's assuming this claim is true in the first place.
