(58,699 posts)It's just that the modern version of same has spun so far off the rails of rationality, that I can't stand most of them now a days. Haven't voted for an R for Pres since Nixon; haven't voted R down ticket since probably the early 90's. Don't really plan on it, either. In my mind, I've had to take a very Bush-like position of "fer us or agin us" when thinking about supporting anybody from that side.
Back in the 60's and into the 70's, there were plenty of conservatives that would work across the aisle to actually solve problems. The modern breed has sold out so much to the corporate mind set that they think of the government as competition for their revenue streams. 'Solving problems" equates to removing business opportunities. Take your boss, who as you said works for a government contractor. I'd bet he has been wailing for years about the evils of "big government" and probably had a total lack of any sense of irony in that position.
Nice to see your boss as an example of a Con coming to some sense of reality.
