(24,135 posts)Long, long ago when I was a media buyer for a chain of record stores, a sales rep from the local oldies station came in and told why the oldies station had such high numbers in middle-aged men..
He said, "it takes them back to a time when they had no problems, no alimony, no child support." - which I took as a clue to never date any middle aged guys...especially if they were married with kids at one point.
Maybe you are an old fart - I'm an old fart too, but I tire of listening to old music. I seek out new music, artists and always
look forward to new stuff by older artists. K.D. Lang took a turn to country, so if she had a new release that was country, I'd have to pass. I never was a fan of Joan Baez, but loved Joni Mitchell, Joan Armatrading. Couldn't stand Stevie Nicks back in the day when she ruled. Every year for about a decade, she was chosen by Rolling Stone readers as the best female vocalist, when there were many other talented female artists. I liked Christine McVee better of the Fleetwood Mac girls.
Beyonce, don't listen to her on my Rhapsody acct, but I do listen to Lady Gaga and love Pink. I like Beyonce's video's especially the technical backgrounds, she and Rhianna are breaking new ground in this new LED technology.
I like watching any live music in my old age, even if it's on TV or YouTube. I still go to concerts once in a while, this past 4th of July, I saw Squeeze and The B-52's and recently saw Young The Giant and my son's band mates which is electric jam and quite rhythmic and hypnotic.
We all have our favorites.
Can't wait for The Grammys this Sunday - more live music - I'm a huge fan of The Lumineers, fun., Florence & The Machine, Goyte, and others.
