(20,226 posts)The politically dominant but numerically insignificant third way are simply right-wingers minus the radical religious/social conservatism and purest ideological stridency. They are more than willing to use a measured amounts of Orwellian populist rhetoric to sell a very unpopular agenda to moderate and liberal leaning voters. Their presentation of reactionary economics is made quite easy by the likes of Tea Party Republicans and the dominance of the lunatic fringe in the modern Republican entertainment industry who are now leading rather than following the legislative wing of the GOP. When the alternative is a bunch Fox News lead right-wing nuts - the so-called third way Democrats are able to support polices that Ronald Reagan himself would have never hoped to put on the table. Who actually joined with the lunatic fringe of the GOP in enacting the most reactionary rollbacks of the New Deal and the Great Society - was it Reagan or was it a Democratic president whose sacred name must not be spoken?
