it was needed to be done before election day. McAuliffe didn't WANT any Dem nominee to prevail in 2004 because his agenda was all about Hillary2008.

What was the main agenda when Dean took over as DNC chair? Rebuild the party infrastructure in every state where it had been left to collapse since 1996. And many of us believe it was done deliberately by a few powerful groups within our own party looking out for their future self-interest.
