(12,041 posts)There are lots of people involved in this and the President may be the most powerful one of those people, but this is a system that is so entrenched that no President can simply change it on their own. When we fight over a person we have a lot of people who will defend that person based on his likability and we have others who don't like him and will attack him for anything. What ends up happening is we end up fighting over a personality while the same system keeps chugging along in the background. The point is that we need to focus on the real problem of an entrenched system that is totally broken and has been broken for years, we focus way too much on who is "in charge" when in reality when a system becomes entrenched the President can do very little to stop it without risking enormous consequences. If we focus on Obama the system will still be in place when Obama leaves office and we will turn to fighting about the next President, if we were to just focus on the system at the core of the problem rather than the personality we would be on a much better path to fixing the problem.
