Police do this all the time. Why do you think interrogation is often the same question over and over? It's to see if they can catch the witness in a misstatement, which is why you never talk to the police, rather let your lawyer do so.

This defense attorney is doing the same thing to show

1) That she isn't reliable and
2) For a dramatic "gotcha" moment

Emphasizing "creepy ass cracker" is an attempt to turn the white members of the jury against her.
