They put up stickers of their Not The US Flag and they fly their Not the US Flag and sing anthems to it, they fight for the right to fly their Not the US Flag.
They also casually refer to Americans from outside their region as Yankees to emphasize that they are not the same people or nation.
No offense to Southerners, I know this is not universal and I have Southern friends and family roots, but that 'we are not Americans' culture does thrive with flag and slurs all their own.
