Just a thought, probably your docs don't send guys home without a reminder but if they don't give you a urinal, get him something handy to pee in from his bed. We learned the very hard way...my ohana passed out after going to pee, and he really didn't need the complications that followed.
Just for the first day at least!
The other suggestion I'd make, having just gone through a little nightmare in our ohana, is to make a chart for the pain meds that won't be confusing even when the reader is sleep deprived and on said meds, and keep a flashlight handy.
