With just his simple, mocking smile he laid bare the fact that they were beating around the bush, without going into specifics.

Romney-Ryan's entire strategy hinged on not going into details of what they were about to do to the middle class and working poor.

Instead, all they were left with is "NOT Obama" which isn't exactly a great rallying cry for anyone other than their base.
