(32,114 posts)8. Unfortunately in our system there is no party that stands for principles.
Both parties are a collection of allied groups with geographic, rather than ideological, bases. If you say you are a Democrat then you are a Democrat. No party group approves you. Same with Republican. Which is why there are so many independents in this country and so much ballot splitting.
I would favor a parliamentary system of multiple parties that actually stood for specific principles -- not 'we are for the people' nonsense. Parties that had the capability to toss people out that did not stand for those principles -- as they do in Europe but is impossible in the U.S.
