(82,383 posts)73. That just shows you how you could do it in your head
especially with larger numbers. It's hard to keep a sum in your head as done on top but the bottom shows how you could think about it. Interestingly the old way just shows you a mechanism that works without necessarily showing what goes on underlying the exercise.
