I like her whistle, too. Going out to buy that album as soon as I post this!

Kacey Musgraves’s Rebel Twang
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/17/magazine/kacey-musgravess-rebel-twang.html?_r=0

I'm not a fan of much country music, but after I read that NYTimes article about her, I just had to go looking cause of this:

...and her songwriting hero, the country maverick John Prine, about whom she wrote a song that contains the line “My idea of heaven is to burn one with John Prine.

A woman to my own heart; he's always been my songwriting hero, too. Kacey says the things she sings and writes songs about aren't controversial to her.

"I talk about things that have made an impression on me that a lot of people everywhere are going through." ~ Kacey Musgraves

Thank you for telling DU about her, William. I'd never even heard of her! Listening to that song you've posted gives me much hope for this country, our young people, the world.

Lyrics to "John Prine"

You get a little drunk, get a little loud
Stupid me and my rebel mouth
Ain't all wrong but I ain't all right
Don't see no world in black and white.

Grandma cried when I pierced my nose
Never liked doing what I was told
Don't judge me and I won't judge you
'Cause I ain't walking in your shoes

'Cause I ain't one to knock religion
Though it's always knocking me
Always running with the wrong crowd
Right where I wanna be
I'm not good at being careful
I just say what's on my mind
Like my idea of heaven
Is to burn one with John Prine

Maybe he would sit a while
And render me an illegal smile
And I bet that he would understand
Just how I feel and who I am

'Cause I ain't one to knock religion
Though it's always knocking me
Always running with the wrong crowd
Right where I wanna be
I'm not good at being careful
I just say what's on my mind
Like my idea of heaven
Is to burn one with John Prine

I play my life like truth or dare
I'm not all here but I'm all there
And all the colors people paint me
Don't they know they'll never change me, yeah?

'Cause I ain't one to knock religion
Though it's always knocking me
Always running with the wrong crowd
Right where I wanna be
I'm not good at being careful
I just say what's on my mind
Like my idea of heaven
Is to burn one with John Prine
Like my idea of heaven
Is to burn one with John Prine
