(490 posts)The first time Obama ran for President I was very, very ill. I was a low information voter. All I could do was listen to his speeches. I was too sick to look up his record. He spoke eloquently and after Bush... oh what a relief that was. He sounded like one of the most progressive candidates the Dems had run in a long time.
Maybe it was my fault. Bush... being sick. It is all intertwined but I had so much hope when I voted for him by absentee ballot. I cried when he was inaugurated. Perhaps I became disillusioned too quickly. I voted every single election.
My second job saw me 8 years in a union in the Ronald Reagan 80s. Not fun. My career at its apex before I became disabled saw me as an accountant for three non-profit foundations that worked on international social justice.
I am a goddamn progressive. Obama is not and don't try to kid your way around a 30 year social justice activist. Have some respect for me. President Obama is a centrist Democrat. Not much different from an old time centrist republican. I think that President Obama has done his best given the absolute mess he was handed but no way has he governed like a "progressive."
