The Hubble Ultra Deep-Field photograph. They focused the Hubble telescope on a patch of "nothing", empty pace as far as they could tell, and let it take this photo over a few days, from that little corner of nowhere.
Every mark in that image. every speck, every smudge, every dot... is an entire galaxy. Every single one. Every single galaxy pictured, like all galaxies, is packed with billions and billions of stars. Most of those stars would have planets. Some of those planets would have life. Some of those would have civilizations.
And that's just one patch of "nothing" in our line of sight. What about the next patch of "nothing," or one after that? Another sea of galaxies, pouring out of the far corners of our perceptions, again, each full of suns and worlds and who knows what else.
That is the coolest picture ever
But Obama looks pretty nice too.
