Democrats are doing poorly because the seats up in this election are almost universally conservative [View all]

That's it. There's no point in placing blame on anyone. This was always going to be a tough election for the Democrats because it always favored the GOP.

There is no mandate and this isn't certainly an election that's a referendum on Obama or the Democrats. It's just an election season where more states that are up for grabs just happen to be conservative.

Kansas? One of the most conservative states in America.
Kentucky? Ditto.
Alaska? It's trending left - but not fast enough.
North Carolina? See Alaska.
Louisiana? See Kentucky.
Arkansas? See Kentucky.
Georgia? See AK and NC.

That's not to say Democrats will lose all these seats - but the only swing states that are up for grabs, Colorado, Iowa, New Hampshire, also are, not coincidentally, the best chances the Democrats have at keeping the senate.

I think the Dems maybe do keep the senate - but even if they don't, it won't be because the GOP is rejuvenated - it'll be that the states they had to defend were far more conservative.

Even still, I expect Democrats to win in North Carolina and maybe Georgia, as well as Louisiana, so, they're doing well enough in a landscape that heavily favors the GOP this go around (but will favor the Dems in 2016). It's the nature of the beast, I guess.
