(41,143 posts)A dying party, maybe, sad thought, but it's happened before here. I hope not. IMO in 20+ years it has moved so far away from major Dem. Party values of leaders like FDR, JFK, LBJ, EMK that any return to earlier strength will be long and difficult. The left is heavy as ever with thinkers, writers, watchdogs and activists who continue, mostly defensively to fight immense power and wealth on the corporate, global right. It's a huge lift. Return to fundamentalism in religion and loss of rights for workers, minorities and women are also major factors. Although young I remember the gains of the '60s and '70s and the enormous rollback since is discouraging. Yet we have to continue the fight. (And this post probly won't count cuz the thread is down now as the case with DU.. blah, blah, blah).
