(28,979 posts)I met him at Andy's funeral when he gave the eulogy for all of us. He spoke for us all that day. Through all the years on DU, he fought the good fight. Honed his arguments in our forge. A warrior. A friend. And one of the most honest DUers I know. Sharing of his life. His family. His loves. His angers. He has always worn his heart where all can see it. He became my friend on Day 1 when he screamed into the internet to anyone who would listen that Bush had stolen the election and that our country was in danger. He was a voice that led many of us to find each other. DU came together like the group from Walking Dead largely in response to following his voice in the wilderness. Some pretty bedraggled angry shocked people. And Will helped lots of us learn to survive on our own as well. He was one of DUs homegrown grassroots writers. How wonderful that we nurtured so many amazing voices.
I don't trust new people who try and tell me this wasn't what it was like.
Not everyone turned out to be who they said they were back then, and that's still true. With Will, I knew. I hope he returns not because he needs us, but because we need him.
