(894 posts)Maybe not the best word, but it was the nature of the deception, as I saw it, that made me think of that word. I'm sure there is plenty of deception on this board when it comes to trolls, but that is more in the form of an ongoing impostor, pretending to be someone they are not.
This post was more like a one time con, drawing people in that didn't understand the intention of this particular game. People trusting the intention of the OP and then getting burned because it was actually a back-handed, ha-ha I'm clever insult. And the game kept being played by the original poster, post after smugly ambiguous post.
No one lost any money, but the mindset, and especially the craftily drawn out play on well intentioned posters, who MM knew were misunderstanding him, is what made me think of scam.
And it did seem a little unique in character to me, among all the other nasty stuff I've seen here, which is why I said I hadn't seen that before on DU. But the fact that it's something I had not seen before isn't what makes it a scam.
So to answer your question, no, the fact that you haven't personally seen me on DU before doesn't make me a scam.
