Ted Cruz says federal government wants boys and girls to share showers [View all]

Sen. Ted Cruz recently suggested our government wants boys and girls showering together.

The Republican presidential candidate told an interviewer: “Look, these guys are so nutty that the federal government is going after school districts, trying to force them to let boys shower with little girls.” The Texan went on: “Now, listen: I’m the father of two daughters, and the idea that the federal government is coming in saying that boys, with all the God-given equipment of boys, can be in the shower room with junior high girls — this is lunacy.”

We hadn’t heard about that push and also didn’t hear back from Cruz’s camp about the basis of his claim.

But it looks as if Cruz was referring to an Illinois student’s well-publicized legal battle for full access to school restrooms and locker rooms rather than being restricted to facilities matching her gender at birth.
