The majority of republicans think that Kasich was the best. Don't be surprised if he rises in the polls. True, he's not as exciting as the others, but the better in the long run to face the Democratic opposition. He is more likely to attract unaffiliated voters than the fiery Republican candidates.
If it's Kasich against Clinton, Kasich wins IMHO.

i have been thinking for some time that Cruz and Trump may be tougher to beat than Rubio

Yeah, Rubio was beginning to get some traction as the "reasonable" alternative to Trump and Cruz.
