But yeah, having a judgeship decided in the 2012 primary would give a huge advantage to the Republicans. If the primary was early enough, their party at least had a contest (although I cannot now remember who was #2 or #3 behind Mitt or how close it was.) Which would likely bring more Republicans to the polls, where they would also elect a conservative judge to a 10 year term.

I remember voting in the 1988 primary in Wisconsin. It was late in the season and Dukakis was pretty far ahead. I was still hopeful that if Jesse won Wisconsin, he could somehow still win the nomination. Instead he pretty much got buried in Wisconsin.

This one is a little bit more like 2008. We have a clear front runner, but also an opponent who refuses to give up. Without a real heavyweight to help divide the "we hate the Clintons" vote, the two person race is dragging on.
