(14,255 posts)76. I have to confess that I used to fucking LOVE their pecan waffles.
No syrup - just pecan waffle butter delivery on a fork.
I know the waffle batter is made from a likely chemical-laden powder, out of a box. But, thank goodness, there are no Waffle Houses near me. Here in Florida.
80 thousand years ago, when the interstate from Illinois down to Florida was still under construction, we used to drive from Bloomington to Daytona Beach, no stopping except for gas, and for Waffle Houses along the way. Could leave Bloomington (Il.) around 4:30, after work, and be on the beach in Daytona by noon. Waffle Houses always felt safe.

The Waffle Houses near me were always packed when they allowed smoking. Now they are mostly empty.

Eat at Waffle House or IHOP and get your 2 days worth of saturated fat in one meal!

Hah, they are, which is why I haven't been to one in at least seven years of road trips south.

Any eatery joint open after club hours is going to be a hole of ratchetry and mayhem.

I think dining and dashing the Waffle House is a right of passage in parts of the South

Waffle House makes me think of comedian Bill Hicks talking about being in a small town Alabama WH:
