(42,389 posts)Talking to a relative who is intelligent, but mentally lazy. Still thinks there is a possibility that Hillary might get indicted (altho for what he's not sure), thinks that where there is smoke, there must be fire (doesn't occur to him that there may just be smoke bombs) and thinks the Clinton Foundation is dirty (but can't tell you what they do). He reads the headlines and listens to Republican chatter, doesn't go deep on anything and is sure BOTH candidates are "corrupt" so is considering not voting at all. Doesn't trust polls because people lie altho he does see that aggregations of polls are more likely to be true (his scientific knowledge tops out at about 6th grade and his math skills don't extent to statistics). His understanding of other races is minimal (of course he's white! and over 60...)
It's a world of the incurious, an echo-chamber of "folks like me" that willfully refuses to educate themselves on the issues outside their own protion of the world. Some nice people live there, but excuse me if I hope they don't actually vote in major elections.
