It stems from being told (and believing) their whole lives things like a 500 year old man spent years building a boat big enough to then wrangle two of every living creature in the world into said boat.

Now they've been told everyday since the 1990's on radio, "news", in their social groups, and in their churches which told them the BS about the 600 year old dude's boat that Hillary is evil and that she must be beaten, else she'll take all of the guns away so that a godless UN force will carry them away to some internment camp.
