(3,557 posts)But as officer I was very close combat and I was right there with my soldiers shooting, giving first aid, and handling the dead and wounded - as were most of my platoon leader peers.
However, that being said, I was an infantry platoon leader and pretty much went on a patrol every day for the 13 months I was there. That was expected of us (and what anyone who cared the slightest about the men they served with) would do.
Of the 11 people killed in my company in 2004, 2 of them were officers (my company commander and my company XO). Two of the platoon leaders in the company were wounded.
But you are right. The group Trump was addressing are exactly the sorts you described.
Incidentally, I'm the only officer that is ever in any of the PTSD groups I attend. So I'm probably not the normal sort of officer...
