Byrd-WV was in his 9th term when he died at the age of 92. He never got a chance to enjoy voluntary retirement.
Thurmond-SC was able to enjoy his 100th birthday while he was still a member of the US Senate and Trent Lott-MS made a fool of himself at Thurmond's 100th birthday party.
