(22,976 posts)With so many high-profile men having to face up to their shitty behavior (past and present), the overall picture becomes murkier. which leads to simple-minded conclusions such as Al Franken's inconsiderate, crude foolishness cast as equal in magnitude to Roy Moore's repeated stalking pedophilia, or Bill Cosby's drugging/raping his victims. It feels wrong and sexist to even suggest that there are differing levels of offense, but we do exist in a world of spectrums and scales and degrees.
If these revelations continue, and they likely will, their impact cannot avoid being dulled by sheer repetition and numbers, to the point where the public will allow these heartbreaking accounts to simply slip away into the ether.
It's a sticky wicket -- because these men SHOULD pay the price for what they've done. Exactly how to achieve this without the public thinking, "Oh, here we go again," and turning away, eludes me at present. But it needs to be sorted out, and the sooner, the better.
