Plus most comic book fans aren't exactly the gun toting type. They're mostly kids and young adult fans of sci-fi and fantasy going to see a midnight showing on a weekday.
But I get your point if someone stood up and took a shot at the gunman in that situation they probably would've get shot first.

Maximum of 10-15 round magazines for handguns. Five ought to be the limit for long guns.

The clip in my 20 gauge shotgun holds two cartridges. That's plenty for most situations.
