Mitch McConnell Warns Dems On Potential Trump Probes: ‘Presidential Harassment’ May Not Work for Them

In a wide-ranging interview with the AP today, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Democrats launching multiple investigations into President Donald Trump were they to win back the House could backfire.

McConnell was asked specifically about potential investigations into Trump’s tax returns, businesses, etc., and whether any of that is a “legitimate line of inquiry.”

“I think it’ll help get the President reelected,” McConnell responded.

You may remember reporting from a few months ago detailing the concerns Republicans have about investigations Democrats would likely open if they re-took the House, and the President’s finances/business are just some of the many on the list.

McConnell said that GOP efforts against Bill Clinton backfired because “the public got mad at us and felt sympathy for President Clinton.”

“So this business of presidential harassment may or may not quite be the winner they think it is,” he concluded.
